Bethesda Announces 10-Year Anniversary Skyrim Edition

Another version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be hitting the market this fall, but this one marks a special occasion. On November 11, Skyrim will celebrate its 10th birthday with an “Anniversary Edition” announced by Bethesda late last week.

This is Skyrim’s third (or ninth, depending on who you ask) iteration, following the original release and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, the latter of which added in console mod support, graphical upgrades, and a better game engine. The new Anniversary Edition will not only contain the base game and its three expansions (Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn) but will also come with all of the upgrades from the Special Edition and then some. According to Bethesda, the game will include over 500 pieces of Creation Club content, like houses, quests, weapons, armor, and more.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition will be available for a surprisingly long list of systems, including the Xbox One, Xbox Series S and X, PC, and PlayStation 4 and 5, despite Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda last year. Though the original game is available on the Nintendo Switch, Bethesda doesn’t seem to be planning for a Switch release of the new edition. Fans who already own The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition on any console (including via Xbox Game Pass) will automatically receive three new pieces of Creation Club content: Fishing, Survival Mode, and Saints and Seducers. Those who specifically have the Special Edition on the PS5 or Xbox Series S/X will enjoy a free upgrade to an “enhanced” version of the existing game, as well as the option to purchase an Anniversary Edition upgrade for an assumably smaller fee.

For Skyrim’s birthday bash, the party doesn’t appear to stop at a new version Bethesda has announced a Skyrim Museum for fan art, cosplay, and other game-related creative expressions from the past decade. The London Symphony Orchestra and London Voices Choir will also be performing a number of Skyrim’s “many anthems, ambient soundscapes, and memorable tunes” at the historic Alexandra Palace Theatre on the day of the game’s release. Fans who are waiting for their copy of the Anniversary Edition to download can watch the performance live on Bethesda’s YouTube and Twitch channels.
