Foldables are slowly gaining traction with devices like the Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 from Samsung. Chinese smartphone giant Oppo is no stranger to tinkering with new form factors, so it’s surprising it took this long for Oppo to get on the foldable bandwagon. The company has teased its upcoming Oppo Find N foldable, and no sooner did it release the teaser than more details leaked online.
The Oppo Find N has the same basic design as the tablet-like Galaxy Z Fold3 as opposed to the Razr or Flip3, which are flip phones. There’s a display on the outside that doesn’t fold, paired with a larger internal folding OLED. Oppo was hesitant to provide any specifics on the hardware, but the phone looks shorter, wider, and more compact than Samsung’s flagship foldable. If the renders are accurate, there’s little to no visible gap between the two halves when the phone is closed like there is on the Fold3.
There will be more official details on the Oppo Find N on December 15th. Until then, we’ll have to count on the leaks. Oppo’s official teaser video (see below) conspicuously avoided showing the rear of the device, but noted phone leaker @evleaks managed to get his hands on press renders of the phone. They show a triple camera on the back with a rather large bump. The text on the module tells us that the main sensor is 50MP, but it’s uncertain what the others are. If Oppo is taking this device seriously, they’ll be telephoto and ultrawide. If not, macro and a depth sensor.

Samsung and Motorola have both launched several foldables in the US, and Huawei has dabbled in China. This will be Oppo’s first foldable, but it’s not entirely new to the game. The company says it has spent four years of research and development to make the Find N happen, and it has created six generations of prototypes. You could make the argument that Samsung, Motorola, and Huawei released what were essentially prototypes for their first few foldables. Only now is the technology starting to come into its own.
If Oppo plans for a full release of the Find N, it will most likely be restricted to China. It usually rolls new designs out in its home market first, but some will eventually expand to other countries. However, Oppo doesn’t operate in the US. If you’re looking for a tablet-style foldable stateside, Samsung is probably your best bet.
