One of the ongoing issues in the GPU world these days is whether AMD and Nvidia would fail in their attempts to sell extremely pricey GPUs. The thinking is that both companies realized in the pandemic they could charge whatever they want, and people would pay. Here in the US, the notion has been met with some pushback for both camps’ latest GPUs. The RTX 4070 Ti was widely panned as being too expensive at launch, and the Radeon RX 7900 XT was dismissed as irrelevant since the XTX was just $100 more expensive and a lot more powerful. However, these two GPUs appear to be selling very well across the pond.
Twitter account TechEpiphany tracks sales of GPUs at Germany’s biggest reseller, MindFactory. The account tracks both weekly and overall sales. It’s an interesting snapshot of the GPU market in Europe as Germany is big for gaming. According to their numbers, the RTX 4070 Ti was the top-selling GPU across the board this week with 280 units sold. That’s a surprise given the GPU was originally supposed to cost $899, only to have it lowered to $799 to stifle complaints of price gouging. Here in the states, that GPU was pilloried online for still being too expensive at launch. Despite its price, it still sold more than twice as many units as the Radeon RX 7900 XTX this week.

Although the Radeon RX 7900 XT is far down the list with just 100 units sold, it’s still doing very well. According to overall sales from Wccftech, it’s the top-selling GPU right now. So far the company has sold 1,865 7900 XTs, earning it the top step on the podium. Next to it is none other than the RTX 4070 Ti with 1,755 GPUs sold. In third place is the RTX 4080, which is surprising since US gamers have mocked that GPU for being overpriced. It’s still easily available at all online resellers too.
Therefore, it seems things are a bit different on the other side of the world. The outrage you see online here apparently hasn’t reached the good people of Germany. Or perhaps, they just don’t care. Both GPUs in question are arguably great GPUs, assuming you’re not upgrading from a recent card. If it’s been a few years though, they both allow for high-fps 1440p gaming, and the Radeon can even dabble in 4K a bit thanks to its generous 20GB of memory and 320-bit memory bus. The 4070 Ti is hobbled by a 192-bit memory bus, but that’s apparently not enough to scare people away in the Fatherland.
